Festival favourite Nidhogg will finally see general release later this year, putting it in reach of those outside the trade event scene at last.

According to a post on Indiegames, developers Mark Essen and Kristy Norindr – known as Messhof – confirmed the fencing adventure will release later this year. The pair hope to bring the game to Steam.
Nidhogg has evolved since its past showings, too; having previously fronted a local versus mode only, it’s now equipped with a single-player mode versus AI, online multiplayer, multiple stages, and new kinds of weapon.
New moves have been added to combatant’s repertoires, including a dive kick, roll, crawl and wall-jump.
Nidhogg is a simple, retro-styled fencing sim which is simply a delight to behold. It’s hard to explain why it’s so appealing, but it scooped the Nuovo at the 2011 IGF awards.
Thanks, Destructoid.
