banned xbox on xbl

Ok so I found someone selling an xbox that works great but is banned on xbl, does anyone know if I can do something to unban it, or should I just not buy it, its selling for $30.

I wouldnt, when your banned its a console ban and you either have to use some hardcore hacks to unban or replace the motherboard because its console banned.

Why would they unban the console? That wouldn't do anything.
