just wanted to get this section up and running since some people want to be immature spammers and post bullshit threads.

Who is the greatest closer of all time?

Trevor Hoffman?

-OR-

Mariano Rivera?
http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_stats_player.jsp?c_id=mlb&playerID=121250

My pick is Rivera.
their numbers are about even, but Rivera pitches in a much bigger stage. Rivera is also nearly perfect in the postseason and in the allstar game while Hoffman (in the few times he's seen the playoffs) does just decent.

Here are their postseason and All-Star game stats

Hoffman has just 4 postseason Saves with a 3.46 ERA and 16 baserunners in 13 innings.

Rivera has 34 postseason saves with an incredible 0.77 saves and 88 baserunners in 117 innings.

Also, Rivera has 4 rings.

I have had to put up with Hoffman's bs for a long time bc he is in the same division as my Rockies... but I'll admit, he is amazing.

Rivera is amazing as well, but the Hoff is the all-time leader I believe.

Also, Hoffman gave me one of the greatest moments of my whole life:

good point.
Hoffman does pitch against weaker teams.
And Hoffman's postseason numbers show what he does against the best teams (not much).

even though i despise the yankees, i gotta say rivera. but by the time k-rod is as old as rivera/hoffman, k-rod will be the best closer of all time. talk about consistency. rivera has slowed down a bit the past few seasons, but hes had an amazing career.

and yea, the NL is a lot weaker, especially that division. hoffmans good but doesnt hav much playoff experience.

True, Francisco Rodriguez is on pace to blow away both of em...
But he has a long way to go.

Watch out for Papelbon too.

well id probaly still say hoffman because he has the most saves (correct me if im wrong) And plus he hasnt had a great team around him like rivera does, not saying the padres havent been decent, but look at the yankees.
