It also is stereotyping an entire group of people by the actions and sayings of just a few people that are part of such group. Makes her no better then a white male stereotyping that all black people smoke newports or how all muslim people will bomb a plane.

" Nerd " Isn't really the right term of use for gaming which pisses me off. Half of the gamers I know are normal, day to day kids that game for fun and for money. Isn't a nerd someone whose a book worm and gets perfect scores in school..? How does getting grades in school and playing a video game for money come together? It makes no sense.. I know more kids that sit home and play public matches all night on fridays with 4-5 friends from school.. Compared to myself who plays GB but actually has friends, goes out and experiences/enjoys life? Hm...

I don't know who you think you are, or why you did this. But this is stereotypical. I myself play MLG and I play basketball, have friends and go out every weekend. Just because I play MLG doesn't mean i'm a "Nerd" or anything. If you want to talk about video games and people being nerds, go on the game and check how many kids(THAT DON'T PLAY MLG) sit home on fridays with 4 of there friends playing all night. ALOT more people do than the people that play MLG. Every single person i've met is a normal day to day person with a normal job. You need to get your facts straight before you go out saying things like that, it's offending and has no truth at all in it.

Thanks so much for your email. I really appreciate that you took the time to write. I am not sure where in the story I said that gamers do not play sports, do not have a job or do not have friends. Yes, yes, I did use to word "nerdy" to describe the "bragging rights" that might possibly come from one of these tournaments -- but I never referred to anyone as a nerd. And yes, yes, I list off some stereotypes of gamers -- but they actually aren't any of the ones that you list here. Plus, every person I quoted in the story had a full-time job.

But, either way, I am so very, very sorry that my article offended you. That was not at all my intent.

Yeah I agree. To be honest I play video games instead of watching TV. So much more exciting and I'm actually doing something then just staring at the screen. I'd say about 80-90 percent of teenagers probably own a gaming console. Does that make them all "nerds"? Not at all.

I myself was semi-pro on cod4 and made top page/playoffs 5 seasons in a row for Cod4. I don't care about the group as a whole, I look at it as I myself am included in this which upsets me cause nobody on my team is a nerd and or doesn't have a life.

Professional gamers make money off of tournaments, not to just go around saying they beat this other team. If you were to talk to a MLG Pro in real life i bet the first thing they say wouldn't be "Yo what's up i'm insert MLG name here my team beat Envy Us and my GB rank is 1."

to sk: she didn't say everyone was a nerd. the only time she used the word nerd was when she was describing the bragging rights. she didn't say "the gaming floor was full of nerds with glasses and calculators", did she? that would be offensive to you. but she didn't lol that's the thing. it is nerdy bragging rights to most people. to those of us who game it's important, but to others it's just nerdy. she's not trying to insult you.

to andy: yeah that's why in her sentence she said that the players compete for money, prizes, and nerdy bragging rights. sure, but it would definitely come up cuz it's something they're proud of.
