After 20 years, Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft will finally introduce player housing, a long-requested feature, in its upcoming expansion, Midnight. The announcement was made on November 13 during Blizzard’s 30 Years of Warcraft event, where the studio teased the new feature in a short presentation.

Player housing has been a staple in other MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XIV, The Elder Scrolls Online, and New World, but it has never made its way into WoW. Early development files suggest Blizzard once considered the idea, but it never materialized. The company even poked fun at the persistent requests over the years. Now, with advances in WoW’s tech and a renewed commitment, Blizzard is finally making it happen.

In an interview with PC Gamer, game director Ion Hazzikostas shared insights into the decision to reveal the feature so early. “We want to give players a little sneak preview of what the team is cooking,” he said. “This also gives us a chance to have more open conversations about it that aren’t possible when it’s a top-secret feature.”

Blizzard plans to involve the community in shaping player housing by gathering feedback on what players want from the system. “It’s an idea that’s been kicked around for a long time—but we knew that to do it, we needed to do it right. It’s a tremendously large undertaking,” Hazzikostas explained.

The team is using newly developed tech to make housing a reality, though the feature likely won’t arrive until late 2025 or later. While fans are excited to finally see this addition, the real test will come when the feature launches—and inevitably becomes the next hot topic for criticism within the community.

For now, players can finally stop asking Blizzard when player housing is coming and start sharing ideas for what they hope it will include.
