Watch Dogs: Truth, a unique interactive audiobook based on Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs IP, is now available online. Although the Watch Dogs franchise hasn't seen a major game release in four years, it has expanded into other media formats, including a film adaptation.

The original Watch Dogs, despite early criticism over allegedly misleading marketing, became a commercial success when it launched in 2014, earning the distinction of being Ubisoft’s most pre-ordered game that year. However, the series, once hailed as a promising new property, has faced challenges in recent years, with rumors suggesting Ubisoft may have quietly shelved future Watch Dogs projects. Still, the release of additional licensed content hints that Ubisoft hasn’t entirely abandoned the franchise.

One such addition is Watch Dogs: Truth, Audible’s first original interactive audiobook. Set after 2020’s Watch Dogs: Legion, the latest major game in the series, the audiobook continues the story of DedSec, the recurring hacking collective central to the franchise. DedSec also appears in XDefiant, Ubisoft’s free-to-play competitive FPS, which launched in May.

Watch Dogs: Truth was directed by American/British filmmaker Ben Caird and features a cast that includes The Fall of the House of Usher star T’Nia Miller. English actor Pascal Langdale returns as the voice of Bagley, DedSec’s trusty AI companion. Langdale, known for his work in other Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Far Cry 6, also lent his voice and likeness to Ethan Mars in Heavy Rain.

Other notable Watch Dogs adaptations include Watch Dogs: Tokyo, a 16-chapter manga that concluded in April, and a series of novels published by Aconyte Books. Ubisoft’s film and TV division has also teamed up with Regency Enterprises—known for The Northman, The Lighthouse, and Little Women—to produce a live-action Watch Dogs movie. Ubisoft announced in September that filming for the movie had already wrapped.

According to prominent industry leaker j0nathan, the poor performance of Watch Dogs: Legion led to the cancellation of several planned projects, including a rumored battle royale game. Despite its struggles, Watch Dogs: Legion sold an estimated 1.9 million digital copies in its first three days and was the best-selling game in the UK at the time of its release, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
