Following the release of the Bog Witch update, the developers of Valheim have unveiled a first glimpse of the long-awaited Deep North update. Valheim, a wildly successful sandbox survival game with over 13 million copies sold on Steam and Xbox, continues to receive glowing reviews. With the addition of the Mistlands in December 2022 and the Ashlands in May 2024, the game has steadily increased in scope and difficulty.

The Deep North, however, remains the only incomplete biome in the game. While modders have attempted to enhance it, Iron Gate has long maintained that the Deep North would be the final update before Valheim's full release. Given the formidable challenge of the Ashlands, players anticipate that the Deep North will offer a similarly tough experience. This update promises not only to complete the biome but to bring far more content than expected.

In a recent blog post on Steam, the developers shared a sneak peek at the Deep North, featuring an Aurora Borealis illuminating the skies. They confirmed that this update would mark the end of Valheim’s Early Access phase. With the Bog Witch patch wrapped up aside from minor fixes, Iron Gate is now fully focused on delivering the Deep North update and preparing the game for its Version 1.0 launch. Importantly, they revealed that this update will not only expand the Deep North but will also introduce new content to Valheim’s earlier biomes.

While some players had hoped for an overhaul of the Ocean biome before the Deep North, the ambitions for Version 1.0 are undeniably impressive. The update will include a definitive ending to Valheim’s progression, complete with eight challenging boss fights that will span the game’s fully fleshed-out tier progression system.

The developers have stated that the Deep North’s overall aesthetic will remain similar to its current placeholder version, with notable enhancements like the striking Aurora Borealis. Although the arrival of Version 1.0 will signify the end of Valheim’s Early Access journey, players are optimistic that Iron Gate will continue to expand the game well beyond its full launch.
