A new job listing at Sledgehammer Games’s Gamasutra page seems to give a few details regarding what we might expect from COD 2014 in terms of graphical enhancements. The posting is for a Temporary VFX Artist.
The VFX team at Sledgehammer Games is looking for experienced and passionate VFX artists to join our AAA team. In this position, the artists will work closely with the Lead VFX Artist, Art Director, Technical Art Director, Lighting and Design team to create the most exceptional real-time effects with hyper realism for our current project. The candidates will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas of in-game effects including but not excluding weaponry effects, vehicle destruction, large-scaled rigid body simulations and environmental effects such as fire, smoke, water, and weather system.
The last sentence is quite intriguing. It suggests that COD 2014 could possibly have new environmental effects, including weather systems.
The listing also calls for someone who is experienced with not only next-gen, but current gen platforms as well. Activision confirmed that this years game will be coming to current gen.
“At least 2 to 3 years of next-gen visual effects development on console hardware (360, PS3),” and, “Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current generation hardware (360, PS3).”
As we reported back in January, Sledgehammer has been heavily recruit recently for tons of temporary jobs, meaning the game is gearing up into it’s final stages. The game has been in development for over 2 years now. Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty has changed into a 3 year dev cycle, and that’s about all we know for now.
We don’t have exact info on the game yet; we’ll keep you posted.
