Ok, so the Cpt is home for winter break, and my parents have this old desktop that they use for emails and photos etc.

Well, they shut it down one night, and the next morning it wouldnt turn on... at all. I checked all the connections and cords, they were fine. They took it to geek squad, and determined it was a bad motherboard (sounds like Shaft).

They are planning to replace the thing, but they need to copy ther files from the PC that won't turn on, onto the new one. My question is, how can I turn the thing on?! Can I replace the motherboard?

Hopefully that all makes sense. Thanks for your help fellas.

cpt i had this happen to me. my feeling is your computer crashed so what u got to do is keep trying to turn it on but only turn it on if u have a disk to save ur files on. so turn it on if everything works good put the disc in and copy all your files. u gotta do it fast becuz it cud crash again. if it crashes again then keep turning on until u got all your files or it wont turn on anymore. hope that helps.

you can probably take the memory card out of the crashed one and put it in a other computer then copy and transfer it that way... i

So far blaxican's idea seems like the only one that MIGHT work. Are all the files storedd on the memory card? (I thought they would be onn the hard drive)

Trag I would like to use your suggestion, but the damn thing wont turn on at all.

if u have another computer around put it in that one and get the files thats all i could think of
WHAT?!

Deathrow, the geek squad peaople told my parents that the Motherboard died, so is it possible to repllace it? I will also chech the dust situation.

yea. you could buy a new motherboard.

1. new Motherboard

2. Open the case up. and blow the Prrocessor fan out. maybe the processor overheated and its cooked...?

and, the motherbpard just doesnt poop out at randoim. either a piece came loose. or cables are unplugged. or a static charge could have somehow caught the motherboard and screwed it up. meaning the circuits that run the power are fried. you can get a good motherboard for like 100 bucks.

to get the data off. you need to take the hard drive out. and plug i in to another computer. and then search for the folders containing the pictures. and put them on another computer. and Cpt. I have a nice computer i just formatted (meaning i cleared all the memory and its very fats for its age) if u want it ill give it to you for your grandparents. i could only make a lil money from it so its not big loss. if ur interested let me know.

definitely died from a porn overload, u need to take out the fan/ cooling sytem inside the monitor and replace it with a dead king salmon or tuna fish, then throw some shit in there that looks like it will make the computer work. after that kick it a couple of times and it should work ????

LMAO Hova, just like Dave Chappelle's stand-up?

Flip that is so nice of you dude, you help me with the virus thing and now this, you are awesome. My parents are replacing the Tower, so that should suffice. But if it comes to it, I will let you know, Thanks again for offering Flip.

I asked a guy at work how to do it and he said I have to open up the new PC and attach the old HD to the new motherboard... sounds complicated.
