fuck texas.
I understand that not everyone in Texas is republican. Texas has a very prominent latino population, I'm sure most of them aren't too happy with this decision. Not everybody is a republican for ur info.and what the hell did texas do to u.
I'm not up to date with my American politics, but wouldn't have a black president help this situation?I understand that not everyone in Texas is republican. Texas has a very prominent latino population, I'm sure most of them aren't too happy with this decision.
But you cannot deny that Texas state government is dominated by republicans. The voting population is also dominated by republicans.
It is a "red state" in EVERY sense of the phrase.
and what did texas do to me?
nothing really.
But I'm bothered by what its doing to the country.
allow me to enlighten you a bit.
The publication of textbooks is a business. So naturally those involved in this industry will seek to maximize their profits. Texas happens to be one of the largest markets for textbooks. So based on these curriculum changes, there WILL be new text books made and sold. keep this mind.
also, remember that this is bound to spread to other conservative states all over the south. This will not be an isolated incident. More and more conservative, christian-based states will adapt these changes.
Whats going to happen is you will see a large schism in educational policies. The more socially modernized, free thinking states (NY and Cali are probably the most prominent) will stick to REAL education. The more regressive, religious states (texas, alabama, etc.) will adapt this bullshit curriculum.
Here's where it gets interesting. Economics isnt really my area of expertise, so im not entirely sure of this. But it does seem most logical.
You will have TWO separate markets for textbooks.
New books for the stupid states.
Old books for the smarter states.
Textbook companies will make both, sell both, no problem (atleast for individual states).
If you consider that nation as a whole, we're gonna have half the country being properly educated, the other half being a cesspool of ignorance.
ignorance breeds misunderstands, which breeds frustration, which breeds hatred.
a schism over education will inevitably lead to a much more serious social and political division.
and yes, i said stupid states. Any state that values John Calvin over Thomas Jefferson in American Political Ideology, is STUPID.
Now remember when i mentioned up the fact that Texas is a HUGE market for textbooks? that leads me to a second theory, more popular theory.
The market for the stupid states will be sooooo much more profitable for these text book companies, they will just stop making the traditional books.
the smart states will HAVE to adapt the newer curriculum.
So yes.
What is texas doing to me? Nothing, im graduating soon. I'm too old for this to affect me. and these changes wont affect college curriculum.
But what is texas doing to the overall intelligence of our nation?
Quite frankly, its ruining it.
Always room up here Hova!no fantin.
because of the way our government is set up, the individual states have complete jurisdiction over certain areas. Education is one of these areas.
The federal government can do very little when it comes to education. Thats left up to states to decide.
unless of course this situation gets so out of hand, there is some kind of federally mandated educational reform. Which at least to me, doesn't seem like a bad idea. But to be honest, I'd have to do some more research and think about it a lot more before i form my opinion on it.
my initial thought is that a national curriculum would never pass (atleast in this generation). I can already hear the republicans' cries of "SOCIALISTS!!!".
when in reality the educational system is already socialized. just not entirely.
Actually, ALOT of government programs are run on socialist ideas. but of course we conveniently forget that.
I also wouldnt trust a national curriculum. Too many people arguing over it, could very easily be just as faulty as Texas's.
American politics is crazy.
any room for me in Canada?
