Today we’re doing an all-Deep League post. Most of these players should only be considered in 16-team leagues or more. For my weekly waiver-wire pick-ups, you can find my Monday column*here. Here’s what you need to know in Fantasy Baseball right now. All ownership percentages are from Yahoo!
Brad Miller*(14%): Give Miller credit for not fading after a strong start to his career. He’s ranked 144th in the last month maintaining a solid line through 200+ at bats.
Justin Smoak*(16%): The Smoak monster is 1 for his last 20. Yikes. Is he back to his old ways? He still can’t hit lefties (.181 on the year) with nary a HR against them. And wouldn’t you know it, the Mariners have faced a bunch of left handers the past few games, with*Jered Weaver*mixed in. I think the next couple weeks will be better.
Matt Dominguez*(16%): The once top prospect, turned bust, turned maybe-possibly okay? back to bust, and now playing decently batting 26-102 (.255) 18 R, 6 HR, 12 RBI, the last month. If you saw those stats in a vacuum they would look pretty good. Give him a try.
Christian Yelich*(13%): Yelich is showing a real crappy approach to lefties (.151) but is hitting .321 against righties this year. Use accordingly.
L.J. Hoes*(7%): Hoes has been crushing the ball, ranked higher than anybody on this list. He’s borderline with lefties (.222 through 27 at bats) but is producing enough that it doesn’t matter.
Jeff Keppinger*(5%): Keppinger can largely be ignored due to playing time but he’s started the last 4 games and is a considerably better hitter than*Connor Gillespie.
J.B. Shuck*(4%):*Unlike many of the players listed above, Shuck crushes lefties to the tune of .321 and still manages a solid (.283) against righties. His teammate*Kole Calhoun*(2%) also fares much better against lefties (.286) but doesn’t hit righties too well (.240). Both have been solid and probably should be on a lot more teams.
Brett Wallace*(4%): Wallace boasts the worst average against lefties of all the players on this list (.149) but he has 10 HRs against righties, 6 of those coming in the last month.
Brayan Pena*(3%): Pena comes with a little asterisks because*Alex Avila*was activated from the DL but his fragile body and .198 average should keep Pena and his .375 average in the starting lineup.
Franklin Gutierrez*(2%): Remember him? He started playing again. The Mariners saw fit to bat him 3rd in his first game back and he promptly went 0-4. Still, he’s tempting.
