As this year draws to a close and all of the major tech companies have delivered their big products for 2013, it looks like there’s plenty of time to speculate on the next wave of Nexus devices.
Over the past few months, the LG V510 is a model number we’ve seen tossed around a number of times. The model number itself leads you to believe it’s a close cousin to the LG V500, which is more commonly known as the LG G Pad 8.3. The slight boost in model number would ordinarily lead most to believe there was an LTE version of the G Pad 8.3 on the way, but somewhere along the way the idea that this was going to be a Nexus tablet made with Google’s influence got tossed in the mix. While we now know that there is a new tablet coming from LG, and it certainly looks like it will be Nexus branded, that’s just about all we actually know right now.
Given their track record, when the EVLeaks account says something is coming it’s certainly worth paying attention to. The LG V510 is expected to be a Nexus branded tablet, but everything else about the device seems to be up in the air.
Will this be an 8-inch device like the GPad? You may recall a Photoshop gaffe Google made when they updated the Android pages to 4.4 that included a smaller unreleased tablet. It’s just as likely that said device was a Photoshop flaw to begin with, but Google acted quite quickly in replacing it with a Nexus 7 shaped device once it was pointed out.

What about a 10-inch tablet? All signs point to an Asus made Nexus 10 so far, but that was the one device in the Nexus line that wouldn’t see a refresh in 2013. Samsung’s 10-inch Nexus didn’t sell particularly well, and suffered from more than a few problems when it came time to update to the next version of Android. Google’s Sundar Pichai assured everyone that a 10-inch Nexus was still on the ToDo list, but so far we’ve gotten surprisingly little in the way of details about the tablet itself.
It’s possible that Google is planning to release a pair of tablets early next year to match Apple’s release strategy. With the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 doing their best to soak up the low end tablet and smartphone space, it could be Google matches Apple’s offerings with a pair of premium devices.
There’s also the next version of Android to keep in mind, as Google has historically released new hardware with updated versions of the OS. Since Android 4.4 has only just arrived, it seems like we’ve probably got a bit of a wait on our hands until the next refresh.
