Exclusive: BF4 pre-orders are doing well, but are still below BF3.
Battlefield 4 might be one of the most anticipated games this Fall, but it’s actually doing worse than its predecessor when it comes to total pre-orders, BF4Central has found out.
We spoke to a couple of retail managers from video game shops in California, and to two GameStop managers in Los Angeles regarding Battlefield 4 pre-order numbers.
While all of them said that Battlefield 4 was doing well when it came to pre-orders, they also told us that pre-orders for Battlefield 4 were “below BF3 at this point in time”, as one of the managers put it.
“Pre-order sales are down compared to BF3, and inquiries and interest from costumers appears to be down”, said the GameStop manager from a Los Angeles store who wished to remain anonymous. He added that pre-order sales of Call of Duty Ghosts are “about the same” as they were for last year’s Call of Duty Black Ops 2.
Despite lagging behind BF3, analysts have predicted that Battlefield 4 was the most pre-ordered next-gen game (for the PS4 and Xbox One). Of course, pre-order quantities on the PS4 and Xbox One represent only a fraction of to total Battlefield 4 pre-orders, since the install base of current gen and PC are much, much greater.
Officially, EA hasn’t released pre-order numbers (they rarely do), but EA’s CFO said during a recent conference call with investors that Battlefield 4 pre-orders are “stacking up well against BF3. We’re pretty certain that if Battlefield 4 pre-orders were outselling BF3, EA would have gladly shared the good news with investors.
Either way, Battlefield 4 will likely sell millions and millions of copies, and Premium subscriptions will account for a lot of extra revenue for EA (they sold over 4 million Premium subscriptions for BF3). The company has previously said that they “won’t stop until Battlefield is the number one shooter franchise“.
Battlefield 4 launches in just one week on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It will also be a launch title for the PS4 and Xbox One in November.
