You could shell out the $10,300 for a hand crafted Vertu Signature Touch, but that’s so last year. This year’s obscenely expensive, hand crafted masterpiece of a smartphone from Vertu is called Aster, and on top of offering better specs under the hood this version will only set you back $6,900.
There’s a good chance you’ve never seen someone pull out a Vertu phone, and that’s not because no one is buying them. Vertu appeals to the very rich, and on top of offering a hand-assembled smartphone made of Titanium, Sapphire, and the highest quality calk leather or snake skin the phone comes with the closest thing to Alfred you can get without actually being Batman. The luxury experience, right down to knowing exactly who assembled your phone and having your version of Siri be an actual person, is what makes these phones worthwhile. The Vertu Aster offers the same luxury experience, but comes in at a cheaper price point due to the inclusion of only six months of the Vertu concierge service instead of a year.

Aster is packing a 4.7-inch 1080p display under a 5.1-inch 117 carat sapphire front, and it’s powered by a 3.2ghz Snapdragon 801 processor. The 2.1MP front facing camera and 13MP Hasselblad-certified rear camera are just about the same as the previous model, but the 2250mAh battery is actually slightly smaller than the one included in the signature series. You can also find front facing Dolby Digital Plus speakers and 19-band LTE connectivity. The back of the Aster comes in your choice of either pink, blue, or black calf leather, but can be upgraded to snake skin or ostrich skin for quite a bit more.
It’s still out of your price range, but it is fascinating to see Vertu keeping up with the regular smartphone manufacturers when it comes to the specs inside of these remarkable smartphones. At the same time, you’ll note that there’s no large display version of any of these devices to be found on the Vertu site.
