Titanfall is living up to the hype after a mostly flawless launch. The fast-paced mech shooter is the flagship title for the Xbox One, but it’s also on the PC courtesy of Electronic Arts. A new report indicates the sequel to Titanfall is going to be entirely in EA’s hands as it has secured the publishing rights. Most gamers aren’t particularly fond of EA, but the company is said to be making one important change to the Titanfall sequel — it won’t be a Microsoft exclusive.
Titanfall developer Respawn has repeatedly pointed out it is not a Microsoft-only development house. It plans to produce games for other platforms like the PS4, but the first TF is staying exclusive to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Electronic Arts has, of course, refused to comment on the report, but it all fits rather nicely with previous statements from Respawn.
Titanfall offers a mix of traditional first-person shooter gameplay with the addition of parkour-style acrobatics and giant robot mechs. There is no traditional single player, but rather a co-op story mode that pits two teams of human players against each other in a series of missions. The more you play, the faster your character levels up and unlocks new gear and customization options. The concept has proven popular with gamers, at least so far.
Sales of Microsoft’s fledgeling console have been boosted by Titanfall, which was released for the Xbox One and PC on March 11th. The 360 is still waiting on its release, which was pushed back to April 8th. EA’s publishing deal was reportedly contingent on how well the first game sold, but that seems to be no problem at this point. If this ends up being accurate, Titanfall 2 might appear on the PlayStation 4 at some point, but it’s still going to be Origin-only on PC.
