While we have seen an unprecedented amount of young prospects reach the majors this season, at ages earlier and earler, some didn't get the call until rosters expanded on Sunday. Some we have been talking about for months, some as recent as last week. With the waiver wires long since picked over, these September call-ups certainly are crossing over into our weekly Waiver Wire blog. Some can help you now, others are simply setting yourself up for next season.

Hitting
Ryan Lavarnway C Boston- The BoSox have recalled their catcher of the future to give Jarrod Saltalamacchia a breather down the stretch.* Lavarway has 60 at bats in the majors this season, but has spent the majority of his time at Pawtucket. In 50 games in Triple-A, Lavarnway hit .250 with three home runs and 24 RBI.
Neftali Soto 1/3B Cincinnati- Soto had two very brief stints with the parent club, exactly four games to be exact. There is a roadblock at first base, so Soto may get more time at third. In 118 games at Triple-A Louisville, Soto hit .271 with 15 home runs and 61 RBI. The 24 year old has a good shot to make the 25 man roster in the Spring.
Jose Ramirez 2B Cleveland- One of the most exciting prospects in the Cleveland organization, the 20 year old Ramirez got the call direct from Double-A. In 113 games at Akron, Ramirez hit .272 with three home runs, 38 RBI and 38 steals in 54 attempts. With Asdrubal Cabrera entrenched at shortstop, Jason Kipnis may eventually move to third to make room for Ramirez.
Jemile Weeks 2B Oakland- After combining for 850 at bats at the major league level in 2011-'12, Weeks spent the entire '13 season in Triple-A. In 130 games at Sacramento, the 26 year old hit .271 with four home runs, 40 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts.* 2B is wide open and Weeks will have the perfect opportunity to get a jump on spring training.
Jim Adduci OF Texas- The 28 year old Adduci is someone to watch if his Triple-A numbers translate to Arlington. The call to the majors is the first for Adduci after ten minor league seasons. In 127 games at Round Rock, Adduci hit .298 with 16 home runs, 65 RBI and 32 stolen bases in 41 attempts. Adduci provides speed and another left handed bat for Texas.
Pitching
Rubby De La Rosa Boston- Once a huge prospect in the Dodgers organization, De La Rosa arrived in the monster salary dump that sent Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez to Los Angeles. The 24 year old made 20 starts at Pawtucket, going 3-3 with a 4.25 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. 76 strikeouts, but also 48 walks in 80 innings of work.
Michael Blazek Milwaukee- The 24 year old Blazek was acquired from St.Louis in the John Axford deal. Why the Cardinals would want to let Axford take the hill in a pennant race with all their great arms is beyond me, but that's another story. After dominating Double-A, Blazek made 19 appearances in Triple-A, with excellent numbers and more than a K per inning.
Victor Black NY Mets- Another top prospect acquired in a pennant race deal, Black coming over from Pittsburgh in the deal that sent Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates. Black had 17 saves in 38 appearances at Indianpolis. Over 47 innings of work, he posted an ERA of 2.50 and a 1.05 WHIP. A 63-21 strikout to walk ratio reflects his great stuff.
Kris Johnson Pittsburgh- Early returns haven't been great for Johnson, his latest on Sunday when the Cardinals bashed him, knocking him out of the box after two innings. The 28 year old lefthander was outstanding in Triple-A before the call, going 10-4 at Indianapolis. Over 136 innings of work, Johnson posting an ERA of 2.38 and a sparkling 1.17 WHIP.
Burch Smith San Diego- Everybody loves a live arm, and Burch certainly fits the bill. Smith really struggled in two previous stints with the Padres, but perhaps three times is a charm for the 23 year old right hander. Unhittable in Double-A, Smith was bumped to Tuscon, where he went 5-1 in a dozen starts. A 3.93 ERA and 1.19 WHIP earned him another call.
