Hot on everyone’s must own list right now is Destiny, and while it’s going to be a while before everyone can get their mitts on a copy, it looks like Sony is prepared to show off some gameplay footage for the PS4.
E3 leaks are a fact of life, and it looks like Sony has oozed out some Destiny footage that makes the game even more appealing. The Bungie team has been working overtime to convince everyone that the game is unlike anything we’ve ever played before, and until recently that has been something of a hard sell because most of the game looked like an altered version of Halo.
While that could still be an incredible amount of fun, it’s not what Bungie want gamers walking away thinking. This new footage doesn’t do much to dispel the notion that this is Destiny: Combat Evolved, but that might not be a bad thing.
In this clip you see respawn pools in the shape of drop ships that send enemies to the ground to fight you, which is a huge part of respawn pools in Halo. You see shield mechanics function in a similar fashion, and you even see energy grenades function the same way. What is new, aside from the visual brilliance of the landscape and the enemies you are fighting, is a sort of shift mechanic that the enemy has.
The teleport style evasion might not be all that different from the leap mechanic the Covenant troops have in Halo, but there’s not enough information here to say one way or another. It’s a fun mechanic that will likely be one of many things that makes the game stand out, but let’s hope we see more, and more unique gameplay elements soon.
