Anyone who sprung for Samsung’s 85-inch monster Ultra HD 4K TV earlier this year is about to get a serious case of screen envy. The South Korean manufacturer has started taking orders for its promised 110-inch LCD-based 4K set (model S9110). Yes, that’s 110 inches of pixel-packed glory, and it can be yours for the low, low price of $150,000.
To give you an idea of the scale, this TV is larger than a king-size bed at 2.6-meters by 1.8-meters. Odds are the walls in your home would be a little on the small side for this TV, not to mention your doors. King-size mattresses can be bent and squished to get them through a doorway. TVs? Not so much.
This is a 4K UHD set, which means 3840×2160, or 2160p. At 101-inches, that works out to about 44 pixels per inch — roughly the same as a 50-inch 1080p TV. That might not sound impressive when smartphones are shipping with ten times higher density, but a phone is a foot away from your face. You’ll have to be considerably farther away from this TV to even see the whole screen. This image produced by the S9110 should offer a similar level of crispness as a smaller HDTV, but much larger.
The S9110 is being aimed at business and government customers, but regular folk are welcome to buy one too. You can’t just go and pick one up at Best Buy, though. The S9110 UHDTV is a custom order only, so Samsung won’t make it until you’ve paid up in full.
