New York Comic Con, like most fan conventions, is*all about acquiring lots of new stuff. Toys, books, actual swords — you name it — you can find it at a convention like this. You should really stay on a budget, though, because it’s easy to see my — I mean, your — need for merch go completely out of control.
What can you get at NYCC if you have deep pockets, and a truck to ship it all home? This stuff.
[h=3]Dwarven hammers[/h]WETA is one of the biggest names in props, and is well-known as “that company that did all that stuff in Lord of the Rings.” Well, you can get all the Lord of the Rings props you want, from staffs to swords to bows (none of which are actually sharp and thus functional, but they look really cool). This set of Dwarven hammers will run you $299.
[h=3]Deathstroke’s mask and weapons[/h]Triforce is the WETA of video games and comic books. They make huge, really expensive props and collectibles, and are responsible for the statues and props found in various collector’s editions for games like Batman: Arkham Origins, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. This mask-bust of Deathstroke the Terminator and a collection of his weapons can be yours for $850.
[h=3]This barbarian and his barely clothed friend[/h]Frank Frazetta is a king among fantasy artists. He basically defined the look of shirtless violent guy with almost-to-completely-naked lady posing on top of a mountain, a throne, skulls, whatever. ARH Studios has a 3D statue version of his classic “Barbarian” portrait. With naked lady! Just $799.
[h=3]Dragon mask[/h]There are lots of masks at NYCC, but if you want to spend half a grand on one, you’ll want to look for the work of sculptor Mario Chiodo. These detailed and huge masks will run you $499 each.
[h=3]Variant Batman created by Final Fantasy artist[/h]Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai series of action figures are already pricey at about $100 each, but then there’s this unique Batman. It’s a variant action figure of a Batman design created by Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts artist Tetsuya Nomura, and it’s $250.
[h=3]Dennis Rodman[/h]You want a 1/6-scale statue of the bad boy of basketball? This Dennis Rodman figure is $235, most of which goes toward the hat and shoelaces.
[h=3]Gundam[/h]Japan takes its Gunpla (Gundam Plastic [model kits]) seriously. These Perfect Grade Gundam kits, which stand about 18 inches tall when assembled, are $225 each. And, sadly, none are from G-Gundam.
There’s obviously more (awesome) junk all over the show that you can buy, but these are the standout selections — who wouldn’t want to have Dennis Rodman watching over them every night?
