Marvel Studios and Fox are taking a page from the comics they both use as source material, and are planning an epic team-up. The two empires will join forces to create a pair of television shows based on characters from the X-Men comics.
24 writers Evan Katz and Manny Coto will run Hellfire at Fox, while Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo, is writing Legion for FX. Since these aren’t exactly the most famous comic concepts in the world, a little explanation. Hellfire is based on The Hellfire Club, an ultra-exclusive group of worldwide rich people who do their best to control the world and oftentimes find themselves at odds with the X-Men. The show will follow a young special agent trying to find out the truth behind the organization in the 1960s.

Club members Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost previously appeared in X-Men: First Class as portrayed by Kevin Bacon and January Jones. Given that first class is set in 1962, some tinkering might be necessary if anyone’s concerned about continuity. Then again, any weirdness can always be explained away by X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s dalliances with time travel.
Legion will focus on a young man named David labeled as schizophrenic because he’s always hearing voices. That all changes when he meets someone in his psych ward who clues him into the fact that he might actually be reading their minds.

In the comics, Legion is the long-lost son of Charles Xavier. He suffers from what many call multiple personality disorder (more accurately: dissociative identity disorder) wherein each personality controls a different mutant power.
Both shows will be overseen by producers Bryan Singer, Jeph Loeb, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Jim Chory. Leob is head of Marvel’s TV division, Chory executive produced the Netflix series Daredevil and the others have all worked on the X-movies.
