Ok first does any1 know where, when, and how the word owned was braught into the online gaming system?

It also seems like its spelled differently and obviosly said in different ways
like,
: pwnd - pwnt - and the new 1 ive been seeing -pooned

now from my guess the (p) comes from pound or pawned i really do not know and as for pooned what does that mean like i harpooned ur ass ..

I just figured it would be an interesting topic seeing as it is used in basically all games

There are two theories as to where the word "pwned" came from.

One was that a Quake played misspelled owned, and it just stuck.

The second is a that a warcraft map designer misspelled owned when creating the end of his level, if the computer beat the player it was supposed to say, "____ was owned."

Everything comes back to pwned being a typo that stuck though, that I'm sure about. It doesn't have any secret meaning. it's just a leet was of saying owned.

^Yeah that is what I had always heard was the origin of "pwned"

As far as "POONED" goes, I heard Jok3r say it a bunch on cod4 on xbl, that was the first time I ever heard it, and I say it now lol.

And POONED is just a mispronunciation of PWNED, it has nothing to do wit poontang or anything lmao
