I hope that everyones Spring Break was enjoyable. I had the opportunity to go to New Orleans and see both the touristy stuff as well as the devastated 9th Ward, where the levy broke.
Really what is so strange is that in New Orleans, everybody gets along. I mean every turn you could see bikers sharing joints and beer with hispanics and blacks, all under one roof. In the North, you never see this at all.
BOURBON STREET: By far the craziest street in the World, it actually has the title of the street with the most alcohol sales ever. It was interesting to see that there was something for everyone there. If you were properly dressed you could go into a gentlemens club and if not you could go to a dance club. If you wanted to drink there were probably 50 different bars, some with classic rock blasting others with 90's rap classics DEFINATELY GO THERE IF YOU CAN!
9th Ward: "When Katrina hit, she came like a sledgehammer. The National Guard would come and spray paint how many dead on each house. Look across the street from us, that door over there says 8 dead, Louisiana National Guard."
-Random guy on the street.
Ghost Tour: Nearly the entire French Quarter was filled with Haunted Houses. Ironically as Nicholas Cage was being arrested we were a few blocks away taking pictures of his old house that he feared to sleep in. Actually, we did capture orbs in the pics
Street Cars: Easy way to commute to pretty much the entire city. Even though the doors closed on me when I got off and nearly dislocated my shoulder, they were still cool.
Homeless Population: Well there is a strong bond between citizens both upper middle and lower class there. One guy in a suit came up to us and asked for a light. Then reached down and said "I don't need you guys falling," and he tied our shoes and polished them. Then some guy came up asking for a buck for a hamburger and after I gave him one, he gave me a lesson on treating parents good and then gave me a hug...
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ANY MORE ABOUT THE TRIP I CAN GET INTO SPECIFICS, JUST ASK! I RECOMMEND GOING WHENEVER YOU CAN!
