Before you even consider purchasing Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on March 18, it’s important to remember that this is a 2 hour experience you will pay up to $40 to enjoy. But if that doesn’t act as a deterrent, then there’s another factor to take into consideration when deciding which platform to buy the game on.
As is becoming the common case now, the PS4 version is superior to the Xbox One release. That has been confirmed by Konami through the release of several screenshot comparisons and details of what resolution and frame rate the game will run at on each platform.
If you plan on picking the game up on PS3 or Xbox 360, it will run at 720p (scaling internally) and 30fps. The Xbox One achieves 720p and 60fps, which is an achievement when many other Xbox One games have only managed 30fps. The PS4 comes out on top, however, managing a 1080p resolution and 60fps.
Of course, the same caveats apply as with previous titles. Unless you are running the game side-by-side on the Xbox One and PS4, you aren’t going to notice the difference. And the fact that the game runs at 60fps on the Xbox One is great news for owners, especially if this has been achieved without the SDK update that promises to solve the ESRAM limitation issues for higher resolution and frame rates on the console.
However, if you have both next-gen consoles, the PS4 version looks to be the one to get as it is the only one to combine the highest frame rate and resolution these consoles are designed to run at.
