The fact we all carry camera-equipped smartphones in our pockets means it’s much easier to record anything even remotely interesting. And sometimes those recordings reveal how lucky people can be, such as this man who escaped death, or at the very least serious injury by inches, while recording a building implosion.
The video, which you can watch below, shows a number of onlookers preparing to watch the demolition by implosion of the OP Prostejov buildings located in the Czech Republic.
As you can see, a large chunk of rock/concrete from the building is propelled towards the crowd by the force of the implosion. It misses the guy holding the camera by mere inches. It also bounces over the head of the lady standing directly in front of and to the right of him. If that couple had been standing the other way around with the man on the left, then there would have been a very different outcome involving an ambulance. The rock is simply moving far too quickly for anyone to react in time and dodge it.
This projectile should not have been allowed to escape the confines of the demolition site, and clearly there wasn’t adequate safety netting in place around the building. As this video is proving quite popular on YouTube at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the company who carried out the implosion facing some kind of costly prosecution because of it.
