As well as announcing a very expensive silver plated external hard drive, LaCie has this week introduced the Fuel portable hard drive offering 1TB of extra storage for your iPad, iPhone, or Mac without any wires in sight. At $199.99 the Fuel is by no means cheap, but its feature list might make it a worthwhile investment based on your needs.
The LaCie Fuel is a completely wireless storage solution. By that I mean it runs off a battery and interfaces with your Apple devices wirelessly, so you require no physical connections for it to function beyond regular battery charging. And that isn’t going to happen too often as the battery is rated at 10 hours.
LaCie says that the Fuel creates its own WiFi network allowing up to five devices to access it at once. That includes your Apple TV meaning wireless media streaming to your TV as well as your Mac and iDevices. There’s also Dropbox integration allowing for automatic cloud backups and file syncing if you want it. And if you desire faster data transfers there always the option to plug in via the included USB 3.0 port.
Accessing files on your Fuel isn’t limited to just Apple devices, though. LaCie has teamed up with Seagate to offer a free Seagate Media app. You can install it on your iOS or Android devices as well as Kindles to gain access to the files and stream media or view documents on a device.

If you have a lot of media to store, want access to it without the hassle or wires and have a number of devices to cater for, then the LaCie Fuel may be a wise investment. It’s not available just yet, but LaCie is promising orders will open up soon through its online shop.
