The offense was definitely more abundant on Friday but we still had plenty of solid production on Saturday.* With all the Biogenesis suspensions, most likely, coming Monday it’s been a fruitful weekend none the less with many fantasy owners scrambling to find replacements for Peralta and Cruz who are likely to be playoff hitters come September.* Hopefully some recapping can give all you fantasy owners some ideas of who you can make a quick trade or find a descent gem in the free agent pool.* So let’s get right to it.* Here is Saturday’s fantasy baseball recap!
Ivan Nova:* 7IP, 4 hits, 0 earned, 1BB, and 8Ks.* Ever since being recalled back to the big club Nova has been lights out.* He’s been a big piece in that rotation which is keeping the Yanks in the hunt for a Wild Card spots.* Nova was exceptional against San Diego improving to 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA.* If he’s still available I’d go snag him quick.* Nova is a solid piece for down the stretch into playoff season in fantasy.
Justin Smoak: 3-3 with three runs, one home run, one RBI, and two walks.* In his past 30 days he has some new resurgence to his swing and can be a good piece to add if in need of some help.* Smoak isn’t the best and can slump hard but if you’re losing someone due to suspensions then he can be a good source of power since there really isn’t much left to grab off the waivers.
Danny Farquhar: 1.1 IP, 0 hits, 0 earned 2 Ks, and a save.* After Wilhelmson imploded the other night and gave up four earned without recording an out, everyone wondered who would be the next to close for Seattle?* Well it looks like we have found that closer.* That was his first save of the year and look likes there will be many more to come.* He should be owned in all leagues at this point and hopefully he is still around for you to snag.* His ERA is a shaky 5.24 but in his last seven appearances he has been real solid.
Francisco Liriano:* 7IP, 2 hits, 0 earned, 5BB, and 6Ks.* Once again Liriano was dominant but did show a bit of his wild side.* All in all it was still a great performance and should still be in all formats no matter what.* He improved to 12-4 and lowered his ERA to an even better 2.02 ERA.* He is definitely on pace for one of the comeback players of the year.
Max Scherzer:* 7.2IP, 3 hits, 0 earned, 3BB, and 6Ks.* The guy is now 16-1 and is showing even better strides in the second half, lowering his ERA to a 2.85.* His 0.91 WHIP and 170 strikeouts are still among the best in the AL and is the leader for the CY Young in the AL as well.* Keep him going; he’s the best power pitcher so far this year next to Harvey and Kershaw.
Jake Peavy:* 7IP, 4 hits, 2 earned, 2BB, and 7Ks.* This addition can win the Red Sox the AL East and possibly even more in the post season.* Now 9-4 with a 4.14 ERA that is still well enough to be inserted back into lineups or picked back up in free agency if someone foolishly dropped him during his DL stint.* Look for a very strong half from this guy now that he’s on a contender!
Jayson Werth: 2-3 with one run and a stolen base.* That was Werth’s fifth stolen base but the most important thing is how hot this guy has been the last few weeks.* He has brought his average from below .300 to a .317 with 15 dingers, 43 RBIs, and 49 runs scored.* As of late his has been a fantasy super producer and should be in all lineups when he’s this hot.* Werth is making that $100 mill finally after a slow start to 2013.* Ever since signing with Washington he hasn’t been the same but he has his spurts and should always be started.
There you have it everyone a quick Saturday recap to help you going further.* Any questions please feel free to ask here or on Twitter @NickRosa4.* Some fantasy owners have some difficult decisions ahead in adding new players to replace the suspended ones, so if anyone needs some advice to help through this once in a lifetime ordeal please don’t hesitate to ask us!* We want to help you win!* My team has been having a great second half and I hope all of you are to.* Good luck going into the new week!
