Last week, Apple began taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5C but curiously, left its latest flagship out of the pre-release fun. Now, it seems, we know why. According to a new report from AllThingsD, sources at North American carriers are expecting the iPhone 5S to be in uncommonly short supply when it goes on sale this Friday. One carrier, the site claims, went as far as to call the available inventory "grotesquely"*low. On the other hand, Apple and its carrier partners may be anticipating comparatively low demand in favor of the cheaper, more colorful iPhone 5C. The news follows similar reports of constrained supply.
The iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S will go on sale in Apple stores at 8am across North America this Friday, September 20th. Pre-orders for both in-store pickup and home delivery are still available for the iPhone 5C, while prospective iPhone 5S owners can place an order Friday at 12am.
