With a global focus on the HTC M8 and the continuation of the One brand that gained HTC so much good will over the past year, it’s easy to forget the Desire line of phones that have been around since the early days of Android. It looks like the next phone from that line is on the way thanks to a beautiful but incomplete leaked image.
While the HTC One received rave reviews for being such a well made and sturdy phone, it’s both expensive and time consuming to make. If HTC wanted to place focus back on a budget device, walking away from that design and back to one of their previous device iterations would make much more sense. The Desire line has historically not been the flagship line for HTC, and it looks like that tradition is going to continue with the Desire 8. Fortunately, it looks like HTC is about to prove that being a budget phone doesn’t mean it can’t be incredibly pretty.

The white shell in the render looks an awful lot like the polycarbonate body seen in the HTC One X, and according to the leak that cane with this render it’s going to come in multiple colors as well. This will give the phone a great feel and a vibrant exterior which will make the thin design even more enjoyable to hold. According to leak, this phone will be packing a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP front shooter with no Ultrapixel in sight.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because those same numbers were included in the HTC M8 Mini leak that showed up recently. It’s possible that these two phones are one and the same, but there’s no way to know for sure yet.
It’s important to point out that the display for this render, which is expected to be 5.5 inches, is inaccurate. There are no buttons below the display and no button on the screen, and the screenshot used in the render is from an older version of Sense UI. There’s a strong chance that HTC is going full steam ahead with on-screen buttons and Android 4.4.2 with their next wave of phones, so this screenshot is either old enough to be more than a little inaccurate or poorly photshopped. Either way, the return of a polycarbonate HTC phone in a thin body is something to smile about.
