When up on stage two months ago for the announcement of the HTC One M8, CEO Peter Chou explained that the materials they used for their phones to create a premium experience was something very important to him. Curiously, today HTC’s website has a new listing for the HTC One E8 – a One made of shiny plastic.
There’s no arguing with how great the HTC One line feels when you pick any of them up. The aluminum casing with a polished finish in several different great looking colors is a huge deal for some, but at the end of the day there are plenty of people out there who are perfectly happy with plastic. This new phone, which is codenamed E8 but named “Vogue Edition”, is set to launch next week in China. Curiously, it looks a lot more like the original HTC One than anything else.

There’s no Ultrapixel sensor, no duo camera, and no wrap around color that makes the whole thing feel like a single piece of anything. The HTC One Vogue Edition has specs that make it feel more like a high end phone from the Desire line, with a regular 13MP sensor on the back and 5MP FFC. The same Snapdragon 801 processor sits under the glass, and the power button appears to be top center of the phone with no IR sensor in sight. The phone will apparently contain a 5-inch 1080p display, and will be officially unveiled in China in a couple of days.
There’s no mention anywhere of this phone coming to the rest of the world just yet, but this is exactly the kind of thing many users would get excited about. People who don’t necessarily care about the duo camera features or would like their HTC One in some of the vibrant colors that this version have been shown off in would be eager to see something like this more globally available. We’ll see for sure next week, so keep your eyes peeled.
