Update 4/16:*Hearthstone has now officially released for the iPad in the US. You can download it for free from the App Store without having to perform the sneakery detailed below.
Blizzard’s wildly popular digital CCG*Hearthstone*finally released on the iPad last week, but it unfortunately only landed in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The global release is a slow rollout rather than an instant launch, and Blizzard has stated that the official North American app will be released Soon[SUP]TM[/SUP]. If you can’t wait, though, you can still grab the app and begin playing in the bathroom or during your commute right now — you just need to follow a few simple steps.
In order to sneak Hearthstone*onto your tablet, you’re going to trick the App Store into thinking you’re located in one of the three regions where the app has officially released.

  1. Go to your Settings app, then select iTunes & App Store.
  2. Tap your Apple ID — sign in if you have to — then tap View Apple ID.
  3. Select Country/Region, then Change Country or Region.
  4. Click the displayed country to invoke a drop-down menu, then select Canada.
  5. Agree to the terms, then select none for your payment info.
  6. Now the sneakery: You’ll need an address and telephone number in Canada. Look up a business establishment in Canada that displays the required information. Banks are easy enough to search for. Add the appropriate info into the corresponding fields.
  7. Once the information is accepted, go to the App Store and download Hearthstone.
  8. When you load*Hearthstone on the iPad for the first time, you’ll be presented with the option to sign in with your existing account (which will grant access to your current collection and progress), or begin anew.
Important: You’ll need to change your Apple ID information back to normal now. This includes your address, telephone number, and payment information. When the North American version comes out, you can delete this version of your app and download the region-appropriate one just in case that ever ends up mattering (it doesn’t right now).
You can use your North American*Hearthstone account even though you pretended you were from Canada for a minute. Now, you can enjoy*Hearthstone from the bathroom without trying to balance a hot laptop battery on your knees.*Stay tuned for our review of*Hearthstone on the iPad, but it already looks like the game was made with tablets in mind despite its tenured PC-only beta period.
