Depending on where you are in the world, getting your hands on one of the newly released next generation consoles from Sony or Microsoft may be an exercise in frustration. Both consoles are popular and stock doesn’t stay on store shelves very long. You also have to contend with those individuals purchasing just to list the hardware on eBay at highly inflated prices.

But high-end London department store Harrods is taking a different approach to console sales it seems. The store does have stock of the Xbox One this holiday season, and you can definitely have the new console in time for Christmas. The only problem is, you’ll be paying £6,000 ($9750) to get your hands on it.
The reason this particular Xbox One is so expensive should be made obvious in the image above. That isn’t a paint job. Harrods has encased the console in 24-karat gold. Nothing else is different. Harrods just turned it into a very expensive fingerprint magnet that also happens to play the latest games.

While I’m sure there will be a few desperate parents and gamers out there on Christmas Eve still looking to purchase an Xbox One, I doubt any of them would be willing to spend this much money. However, if you look at it purely as an investment, by the time you’re through playing games on the console, the gold casing may have gone up in value enough to recoup the purchase price.

If someone is silly enough to buy this Xbox One, they really should be told about those fake Xbox 360 backwards compatibility instructions that are floating around. We wouldn’t want them booting up a very expensive brick this Christmas morning, would we?
