Many PS3 owners will have picked up a copy of Gran Turismo 6 to play in the last few days. It’s receiving very positive reviews, but unfortunately, does include some pretty shocking microtransactions. The worst offender being a Jaguar XJ13, which costs $196, or 20 million in-game credits.
However, some players won’t need to find nearly $200 to spend in order to instantly unlock the XJ13. That’s because a glitch has been found that gifts anyone playing the game 20 million credits. You can see the process to unlocking those extra credits in the video below:

In order for this to work you need to have the v1.01 update applied to the game. Then simply buy the Mercedes-Benz Concept from GT Vision for 1 million credits — roughly $13. Once owned, delete your Gran Turismo 6 game data using the Game Data Utility in the XMB. This will remove the v1.01 update. When you launch the game again without the update applied you’ll be able to sell the Mercedes you just purchased and your credit total will sit at 20 million credits.
Obviously Sony now knows about this bug and developer Polyphony Digital should have it fixed shortly. If you decide to use it, though, just be aware that Sony may decide there’s a consequences or two to doing so. I have no idea what that may be, but if you are enjoying playing the game it’s probably best not to attempt this credit grab.
It’s amusing that such a bug exists and gifts the player enough credits to purchase the most expensive car on offer. You can bet there’s a fair few extra Jaguar XJ13s being driven around in-game today. Sony says microtransactions are for busy people. I’d add that glitches also work really well for busy people, and have the added bonus of being much cheaper.
