Welcome back to the Geekout! This week we’re joined by FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols to talk gadgets, privacy, and the latest in the tech world.
LED bulbs of every shape and size have one thing in common, and that’s the fact that they are way more expensive than other bulbs. The last year has seen dramatic price drops in several bulbs thanks to Cree and Philips, and now that more and more bulbs are getting EnergyStar certified it’s time for some users to take advantage of local discounts using rebates in your area. In fact, if you take a look at the Philips SlimStyle bulbs, the discounts can be as much as 80% of the cost of the bulb.
The OnePlus One has been a huge hit with hardcore Android fans, and it’s not even available to purchase yet. The 5.5-inch beast is surprisingly inexpensive at only $300, but there’s a lot to this phone. It’s a Snapdragon 801 with 3GB of RAM, and it’s running CyanogenMod 11S with some interesting new features. We’ve got a breakdown of the new features as well as a side-by-side video with the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG Nexus 5, and the iPhone 5. It’s by far the biggest phone, but if that’s what you’re looking for in a phone than this is well worth taking a closer look at.

The Private Phone is all about making sure you have a secure connection when you need one, instead of trying to replace your existing phone altogether. Think of it more like a smart burner phone, especially since you can purchase it anonymously. Our app of the week is something of a repeat this week. IFTTT has finally made the journey from iOS only to Android supported as well. The new Android app pulls in all the great things about IFTTT with the Android focused features like notifications and photo gallery access. It’s a free app, and once you get started it’s easy to get hooked making your own crazy recipes to make life easier.
