It’s been a crazy week here at Geek HQ, and it’s only going to get more fun from here as we move into spring. Welcome to the Geekout!
There are few things more fascinating in our day and age than the intersection of technology and medicine, because it seems like we’re approaching a point where consumer technology and medical technology aren’t all that far apart anymore. A perfect example of this is a recent surgery that was done in which the top half of a woman’s skull was replaced with a 3D-printed replacement. Obviously this wasn’t something that was whipped up with a Makerbot or anything, but absorbing the thought that these two concepts aren’t that far apart is incredible.
Is Blizzard really about to get away with charging $40 for an expansion to a game? Actually, yes. Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is here, and it’s fantastic. When coupled with all of the in-game changes that Blizzard has been making over the last couple of months, Reaper feels almost like a new game. The Reaper storyline and the new baddies you come across are a ton of fun, representing new challenges and new levels that are more than enough reason to dust off your copy of the game and dive headfirst back into the crumbling town of Westmarch. Take a look at*our hands-on if you want to know more, but if you’re a fan of the franchise, you are really going to want to know how this one ends.
HTC has finally announced the successor to the HTC One, and they’ve decided to call it the HTC One. Well, sort of — it’s the HTC One M8. We’ve been digging into the phone as much as possible over the last couple of days, and so far there’s a lot to be happy about here. HTC has produced a phone that feels incredible in the hand, is wicked smooth as you glide through the OS, and has more than a few tricks to keep you busy. We’ve been spending a lot of time with the Ultrapixel-powered Duo Camera, and found it more than a little capable when compared to the iPhone 5S and Moto X. HTC Sense has gotten a big boost as well, such that this new version is being called “Sixth Sense” by HTC. Blinkfeed in particular has caught our eye, such that the overhauled aggregate tool has earned itself a spot in our App of the Week.
