Google’s ATAP lab has worked with a company called Vivalnk to make a wearable unlock mechanism for your Moto X in the form of a digital tattoo, and it is available to purchase now.
Late last year, Motorola let it slip during a conference that there were some new kinds of unlock mechanisms being tested for phones. The idea that you could have a tattoo on your skin that allowed you to unlock your phone sounded like some kind of crazy future tech from a science fiction novel, but Motorola seemed adamant that this was something you would be able to do soon. Now that Motorola’s ATAP lab has been fully absorbed into Google, it looks like they have kept their word and launched an adhesive tattoo that allows you to unlock your Moto X.

The Digital Tattoo for Moto X comes in a pack of ten adhesive units that can be applied directly to the skin and used to unlock your phone as though you were using NFC. These adhesives are expected to be able to stay on your skin for roughly five days before needing to be replaces, and look like a copper circle that sits on your skin. The tattoos are roughly one inch in diameter, and they are currently available for $10 for the pack of ten.
Paying $1 per sticker that only lasts five days is not exactly a long-term solution, but this looks like an impressive first step for being able to unlock your phone with a tattoo. You can head to the Vivalnk site now to place your order if you want to try it out on your Moto X and see what living in the future will be like.
