So a few DM members mentioned the benefits of building a PC as opposed to buying a prefab model from a retailer.

I am considering buying some parts and assembling my own!

I was looking at various parts on amazon, are there better sites out there to browse through?

I'm not planning to make an epiic PC gaming machine. I would like to be able to watch/burn bluray discs, have plenty of storage space, and have something that can handle multitasking without seizing up (glares at current PC)

So has anyone gone through this process before? Pro Tips? What to avoid? I've never done anything like this before but it seems like a pretty cool way to get a new PC!

Shieeeeet my bro had this site that he used to use. I forgot it. :[

U only need like 4 gb RAM. It's not like you'll be running Crysis 2 on high gfx and writing a paper at the same time.

Building a PC is a lot harder than it actually sounds. You have to make sure all the parts are compatible with RAM Motherboard, getting the right case to accommodate all the parts the right processor to go with the motherboard etc. IMO if your not a hardcore tech guy you should prolly just buy one, or have someone build it for you.

If you want high multitasking get 8GB of RAM.
If you wanna be pro get a Solid State Drive to put your OS on and another one for all your movies/music etc.

Intel i7 Quad Core Sandy Bridge
Cooler Master Case
8GB of RAM
580 GTX Nvidia Graphics Card
Saber Tooth motherbaord
USB 3.0
Plextor PX-B320SA Blu Ray Player - DVD and CD Burner, DVD+R 16X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, DVD-RAM 12X, CD-R 48X, SATA, Lightscribe (Blu ray and DVD + Everything else)

o_O You listened to me? hm.

You never mentioned a budget though, so it's kinda hard to tell you what to get. The stuff Toon mentioned is great, although the graphics card is a little bleh. Amazon is not the best site, but if it has the parts then cool. look around the net for some builds, too.
When it comes to building it, make sure to ground yourself before touching any parts. => touch a faucet every five minutes or something similar. The parts should come with instructions, but google is your best friend in this situation.

Yeah of course I listened to you, Psy!

Should I build naked to avoid building static? If no, can I build naked anyway?

I think I'm going to just buy a laptop for now, just to have a portable option. I will keep looking at building one though.

Budget would be something like $500?

I was looking at newegg.com, looked like a good place to find parts. Also found r/buildapc.
