BARRIE - More than 1,000 mourners filled St. Mary's Catholic Church this morning to bid a final farewell to Brandon Crisp, the runaway who became everyone's child.
With standing-room only in the church and an overflow room filled to capacity an hour before the funeral mass began, this city turned out to mourn a boy who never found his way back to them.
The 14-year-old left his home Thanksgiving Day after his parents took away his XBox. Despite weeks of intense searches by family, friends and strangers, there was no sign of the boy. His lifeless body, his chest crushed from a probable fall from a tree, was finally found by hunters last week.
Sobs from his two sisters filled the sanctuary as his white-draped coffin was led in
"Half of me will always be missing," his twin Samantha said in a eulogy read by a relative. "He was such a happy kid and loved life. I guess Brandon was meant to die because he was such a kid at heart."
His sisters spoke of his uncanny ability to make them laugh no matter how mad they were. "You're in some VIP section of heaven where all the sweet, smart, children go when they are recruited as angels," said his sister Natasha in the letter she wrote to her younger brother.
Friends, classmates and teachers wiped away tears as a letter from his mother Angie was read. "A huge hole has been left in our hearts, son. You have always been a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day," she wrote.
"I'm sure God was looking for a great goalie to complete his hockey team."
I am going to try and find the first story about this, cause it explained more as to why he ran away in the first place. I ment to post it when it happened but, I think i threw the paper out....
