First of all, i wana say this still-kill4 guy is really ignorant. they arent building the mosque there to piss people off, they are building it because the population of muslims in the region is growing at a very fast rate. its just like wat they did where i live. there were wayyy to many muslims going to the one mosque near our region, so we had charities and events to raise money to make a second one so there is more space. now everything is going pretty well.

and to proove my point valid, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, i forget the rate it grows at. u can look it up urselves. we are almost a larger religion, as a whole, than Christianity.

now the political part. we have religion of freedom here. and there is something called "seperation of church and state." this means the government cant involve themselves in anything related to religion. im sure u can all agree that building a mosque is a very religious thing. so the government cant stop them. and the people cant either, even if there were a vote on it. the governtment cant do anything to prevent it, that is if u want to throw about half the constitution down the drain.

now people are saying they are building this to piss people off, but that is wrong. it is like i said, the population density of muslims in new york is the second largest in America. first would be where i live (hehe). and so they need to build it to give the people the ability to worship the way it is meant to be, and not have to rush to get a spot in an already crowded mosque

You can't put too much stock into religious freedom. We're already losing that.
No praying in schools, for example.

Or how about this? Let's pick on Christians, why don't we.

He lost his job for saying "Jesus"? Religious freedom, ftw. [/sarcasm]
That's not even freedom of speech.
Oh boo hoo Christians are treated so poorly. Give me a break? That stament is false. You can practice your religion in a public school. I have a friend that prays silently before lunch every day in the cafeteria. Our school has a first priority club that meets Thursdays at lunch and Christians go there to pray and talk about god. No one is stopping you from practicing religion in school. However, you cannot force a religion onto kids at school ie bible study, teacher/ principle led prayers ect. Unless you think that everyone should be forced to practice Christianity in public schools, freedom of religion still exists today.

My ass we're in a war with Muslims. We're in a war with terrorists hence the name "war on terror". We are not fighting a religion because terrorists happened to be RADICAL muslims. And how would the building of another religious establishment lead to another mass terrorist attack.

That entire post was directed towards any religion. I just used an example involving Christianity.
But that's interesting, because you aren't allowed to pray at all inside schools around here.

I suppose we still have the freedom of religion, but the freedom of speech is what's really being questioned. What's the new case in congress? Something about hate crimes. Not being allowed to speak out against any other belief. So, I couldn't say that homosexuality is wrong, even if that's what I believe, because it would be a hate crime.

I agree with your last post, 100%.

@Sandy - I thought separation of church and state simply meant that the government doesn't fund the church, and each have separate leaders. I think that if the government found an issue with the actions if a church or religious group, they could stop it. If the mosque proved to be a public disturbance, they could, I think, have it removed.

I'm all about social liberalism so if you seriously can't pray in school then that's messed up and I would raise shit about that. And yes I also think you can say you hate gays just like Fred Phelps because he has the right to do it (of course I disagree with him and think he's a jerk) but he has freedom of speech. A hate crime against gays would be beating someone up because theyre gay. Basically if you commit a crime against someone who is gay and in a court of law they find that you commit that crime because that person was gay, then it becomes 2 charge assault or whatever AND a hate crime.

I'm kind of rambling but I'm just clarifying what I can

So your telling me that that mosque will be yes to train muslims how to fly planes into buildings? First if all I'm pretty sure they would need a plane to do that and I'm pretty sure they can't just take a plane off the roof and fly it around NYC. Second I think you should do yourself a favor and stop posting because the Muslims that will go to that mosque clearly arnt radical Muslims.

ur right about the seperation of church and state, that is how it is pharsed in the constitution or amendments or wat ever. but then u got the good ole' elastic clause, basically expanding that pharse a little bit more, giving it more power.

and as for that last part, u are right, if it is causing a disturbance, the government can intervene. but in this case, the building of it isnt directly doing anything. its on open land, so no controversy there, and for buying that land the owner(s) can do as they wish with it. but they havent directly caused the disturbance with Americans, it is completely indirect because people are quite ignorant sometimes, as u and i kno. so the government cant really do much here.

and as for praying in school, that isnt supposed to be allowed technically, but look at the pledge...

@Mich - Right. But there is something going down about saying things against other beliefs and lifestyles.

@Sandy - Gotcha!
The pledge is general. Apparently "God" is now a universal term that can be applied to most any religions, making it unoffensive.

Sticky sticky sticky topic.

It'd be the right thing to build it.
Citizens are going to go crazy though, throwing shit. Ruining it..

Look at this for a chance.. Confederate flag.. Go down south and you see 912438098 of them.. People don't let that shit go.

You really think New Yorkers are gonna put up with that shit? No way.

Go to a Yankee's game and you'll see what I mean. People there are fucking crazy man, shits gonna go down if they build this. Watch.

Now don't bitch at me with all these " Political views " and knowledge and bull shit. Truth be told, it's the right thing to do. BUT it will cause many problems.

I am SK and I approve this message.
